How to Switch from Jobber to YouWork
Moving from Jobber to YouWork? It's a CSV upload, not a teardown. Here's exactly how to bring your customers, jobs, invoices, and price book over.
Switching software feels scary for one reason: your data. Years of customers, jobs, and invoices sit inside Jobber, and nobody wants to lose them or retype them by hand.
Here’s the good news. Moving to YouWork is really just a spreadsheet upload. You export your records from Jobber as CSV files, paste them into YouWork’s matching templates, and upload. Each record type takes a few minutes. No rebuild, no lost history, no calling support for a week.
This guide walks you through it step by step.
What you can bring over
YouWork imports six record types by CSV. You can bring all of them, or just the ones you need to start:
- Customers — names, contact info, addresses
- Leads — prospects you haven’t closed yet
- Jobs — work history and active jobs
- Invoices — billing records
- Catalog (your price book) — products and services with pricing
- Properties — service locations tied to your customers
You can export the same six from YouWork later too, so you’re never locked in.
Step by step
1. Export your data from Jobber as CSV
From your Jobber account, export each record type to a CSV file — start with your client (customer) list and your price book. Jobber lets you export your data to spreadsheet format; check their help docs for the current export location, since they move things around from time to time.
Save each export to your computer. You’ll have a CSV for customers, one for your products and services, and so on.
2. Start your YouWork free trial
Go to app.youwork.pro/register and start your 14-day free trial. No credit card required. You’ll be inside the app in under a minute.
3. Download the matching YouWork CSV template
In YouWork, open Settings and find the import section. For each record type — Customers, Leads, Jobs, Invoices, Catalog, Properties — you download a CSV template. The template has the exact column headers YouWork expects, so your data lands in the right fields.
4. Paste your data into the template columns
Open the YouWork template and your Jobber export side by side. Copy each column from your Jobber file into the matching column in the YouWork template. Customer name to customer name, phone to phone, price to price. This is the only manual part, and it’s a copy-paste job, not retyping.
5. Upload
Save the filled-in template and upload it back into YouWork. Your records appear in the app. Repeat for each record type you want to bring over.
If you get stuck at any point, the in-app help assistant walks you through it. It’s available on every plan and answers product questions while you set up.
What to set up fresh in YouWork
A few things are better started clean, and they’re quick wins:
- Recurring billing schedules — set these up directly in YouWork so they run on YouWork’s billing engine from day one.
- Default margin or markup on your catalog — set your target margin once and let it apply across your price book.
- Team seats — add your office staff and crew as YouWork users with the right access.
Starting these fresh takes minutes and means everything runs the YouWork way instead of carrying over old settings that don’t map cleanly.
Why contractors move from Jobber to YouWork
YouWork is built around how trades crews actually work. The crew-to-office job approval gate means your techs submit completed work and the office reviews it before anything turns into an invoice — so you bill accurately. Phase and milestone billing is on every plan, not locked behind a top tier, so you can invoice in stages on bigger jobs. The optional website add-on feeds new leads straight into your YouWork pipeline. An in-app help assistant answers your questions as you go. And pricing is public and flat: the $199 Pro plan includes 18 users, so growing your crew doesn’t mean a surprise bill.
FAQ
Will I lose my history? No. Your customers, jobs, invoices, and price book come over through the CSV import. You decide what to bring.
How long does it take? Plan on a few minutes per record type. Most owners get customers and their price book loaded in well under an hour.
Do I need to import everything at once? No. Start with customers and your catalog — that’s enough to quote and schedule new work right away. Bring jobs, invoices, leads, and properties over when you have time.
Can someone help? Yes. Every plan includes the in-app help assistant, and YouWork provides a CSV template for each record type so your data lands in the right fields.
